Edenton, North Carolina is a quaint, serene, coastal town located in the northeastern section of North Carolina. The town is the second oldest city in the state and boasts of over 170 historic homes and buildings, convenient for walking tours. The city is a pleasant mix of historic elegance and charm, offering a unique ambiance of a southern village, a place where people still stroll the streets and greet one another by name.
The local climate offers all four seasons, with no season having great intensity. The pleasant temperatures offer a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the out-of-doors. Residents and visitors enjoy the historical walking tours, a ride on the trolley, the waterfront and harbor, and the compact, downtown shopping area.
For the outdoor-lover, the harbor is an excellent place to dock your
personal boat or to set off kayaking, sailing or fishing. With it’s walkways and parks the waterfront is a lovely area for a walk, run or picnic.
The new Arnold Palmer Signature course and local golfing communities provide challenging courses for the golf enthusiast. For the baseball fan, Edenton is the home of the Edenton Steamers of the Coastal Plain League
A variety of special events are hosted annually in Edenton, such as the Music and Water Festival, Edenton Bay Challenge Sailing Competition, Annual Bass Fishing Tournament, Music in the Parks Series, A Taste of Edenton, a Christmas Candlelight Tour of historic homes, and an old-fashioned Peanut Festival.
The local resources include a hospital affiliated with the University Health Systems (directly affiliated with the medical college at East Carolina University), a local private airport, a harbor and marina. This growing area is quickly becoming known as the Inner Banks with a convenient drive to the Outer Banks of NC and to Norfolk, Virginia Beach and the Chesapeake area of Virginia. It is also within a few hours of Greenville, NC and the Triangle area. |
